2014 Freedom Hill Vineyard Perspicacious Pinot Noir 5 Litre
The idea of making this wine came about when we signed on with Freedom Hill Vineyard in 2012. We felt that we might have found a vineyard that has the capacity to produce a wine with the depth, structure, minerality and complexity that we were looking for to showcase our belief in the ability to produce truly extraordinary Pinot Noirs here in Oregon. There are only three barrels of this wine made. This is one of the most special, distinct and amazing bottle of Pinot Noir we have produced.
In the Vinous.com review of 2014 Oregon Pinot Noirs, long-time Oregon reviewer Josh Raynolds, gave this wine the highest rating of the vintage as well as the highest rating he has ever given to a current release Oregon Pinot Noir:
This wine kept building on itself during elevage, seemingly folding back in upon itself to gain further structure, depth, aromatics and complexity. There was no question that this was going to be bottled on its own as the star of our 2014 vintage, the only question was what to call this special wine. For those of you who know our history you probably have realized that if the wine ends in an -ious suffix (Notorious, Nefarious, Mysterious) then its definitely unique stuff. The definition of ‘perspicacious’ is “having or showing an ability to notice and understand things that are difficult or not obvious.” That seemed to capture the spirit of this wine inimitably.
